Optional for members of TaiK's Student Union TOKYO

TaiK does not have its own sports facilities, but if you are a member of the National Union of University Students = Suomen ylioppilaskuntien liitto SYL, by having paid the fee to join TaiK's Student Union TOKYO, you could have access to University Sports (YoL) services at the University of Helsinki facilities in all campuses and advantageous access to other sports facilities...

Please note

  • Students (and staff) pay less than others, because the costs of the sports service fees are partly subsidized by TOKYO / TaiK
  • You can choose to pay a per-visit fee; or period fees i.e. 12 months fee, 6 months fee, 3 months fee, 1 month fee
  • Some of the YoL facilities are open to the public in general, with regular non-subsidized fees
  • The Student Unions negotiate agreements and discounts with private and public facilities so to offer wider and more advantegeous options
  • In other than the YoL facilities, and on a case-by-case basis, there can be found general student discount or specific University Sports discount, or both
  • General student discount is often available in the great variety of Public facilities and activities

Why

By paying the sports fees you can

  • get access to University Sports facilities (e.g. gyms, saunas, squash and badmington courts...);
  • get access to sports activities (not included those that have a separate additional participation fee);
  • take part in supervised group training classes and open practice sessions e.g. aerobics, stretching, 'jumppa', dances, 'budo' practices; also racquet and ball sports... a lot to choose from;
  • reserve shifts to play badminton and squash.
By paying the period sports fees you are entitled to special discounts and benefits (the payment is demonstrated with a University Sports sticker = Yliopistoliikunta tarra added to your student card) such as

  • the right to make reservations, online, at the customer service desks or over the phone;
  • substantial discounts on individual services, like massage; fitness tests and personal gym / training programmes; the many courses available; special outdoor activities..;
  • discounts at various swimming halls = uimahallit and outdoor swimming pools = maauimalat/uima-allat (in some places there's general student discount; in some there's specific university sports discount and/or both);
  • at the Töölönlahden Ulkoilukeskus = Töölönlahti Outdoors Recreational Centre 15% discount in their services, such as different group training classes, rental of equipment (from bikes and canoes to skis and tents...);
  • discount on aerobics and spinning sessions at the Töölö Gym;
  • discounts on badminton at the Gloria Hall.
By paying separate additional fees you get

  • access to courses, ball sports leagues and tournaments;
  • access to personalised services (e.g. massages, training programmes);
  • a username and password to access online web services e.g. to make and cancel reservations.
