TAIK + VDA

The Degree Programme in Graphic Design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, TAIK, and the Design Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, VDA, arranged a joint-workshop for 2nd-year graphic design students on non-verbal communication and information graphics from November 12 to 16, 2007, at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania. The students had to create concepts and designs for a non-verbal signage system for marking places of events for "VILNIUS European Capital of Culture 2009" event year, the theme of which is "Culture Live". The workshop was arranged and tutored by Tarja Nieminen from TAIK and Ausra Lisauskiéne from VDA. For more information and results: http://www.graafinen.org/vilnius/

Semantic Networks and Graphic Design Workshop

The workshop was held from January 8 to 17, 2008. Graphic Design was analysed in all of its aspects. Meanwhile the students got courses in NodeBox (http://nodebox.net) an open source application that allows one to design with language (Python programming language at the moment). The students had to write their own briefing with two restrictions: the resulting product needed to be a poster and needed to be created with NodeBox, using its specific capabilities.
