
Application period: 1 February - 31 March. The entrance examinations are held only in Finnish and in Swedish, since the education in BA programmes is held only in Finnish, but in some cases the instruction and tutoring can be given in Swedish.
Students can apply only for one degree programme.
The first stage: consists of an evaluation of preliminary assignments submitted together with the application form. Based on the preliminary assignments, a number of applicants will be invited to the second stage of the entrance examination. This and the third stage are held at TaiK in Helsinki.
The second and third stage of the entrance examinations: The assignments of the entrance examination are given in Finnish or Swedish. Interpreters may not be used in the entrance examination. Based on the examination assignments given in the second part of the entrance examination, a number of applicants will be invited to the third stage. The final decisions of acceptance are announced in mid June.
General information about the BA degree
Provides the student with the basics of factual, artistic and practical skills required in professional tasks in the field of design and applied art.
Provides the necessary skills for studies leading to the Master of Arts degree and research in design and applied art. The Bachelor of Arts degree can be completed only in the Finnish or Swedish language. Application time once a year. The instructions for application are announced at the beginning of the year. The application procedure is in three stages.
The objective of education for this degree is to give the student the theoretical, intellectual, artistic and practical skills necessary for professional work in the field of art and design and the ability to independently carry out tasks requiring design expertise. This level of training also contains the basic aspects of research in the field of design. It will give the graduate the ability to follow developments in the field and to pursue further studies leading to the Master of Arts degree.
The degree consists of basic and subject studies related to the field of the degree programme. The basic studies comprise arts subjects, the history of art and design, the basics of design, related research, methods, methodology and language studies. The subject studies consist of courses on the grounds of professional practice, related methods and main themes. As minor subject studies the student may choose suitable subject studies from other degree programmes at TaiK, or offered by other institutes of higher education in science or the arts in Finland or abroad.
The completion of the BA degree is subject to submitting a portfolio, a collection of study projects in which the student presents a diverse and wide range of works of his or her own choice from the whole period of study.
