Visa renewal

Your visa renewal should be started while your visa is still valid, on the last day of your valid visa at the latest.

It takes usually two months to renew your student visa if all your required documents are OK. But if you happen to start your visa renewal in June, it can take more time because Finnish authorities start their summer holiday season and many people are on holiday during the summer time. This is why students try to start the visa renewal already in the spring.

The required documents are the same as when you applied at the Embassy/Consulate of Finland in your home/residence country.

-visa application form  ( http://www.migri.fi/netcomm/content.asp?article=3823
   -> Studying)

-study certificate for 2010-2011 (from TALSS office)
-transcript of record (from TALSS office)
-certificate of your bank account, at least 6000 eur for one year
-health insurance that covers up to 30,000 eur
-two colour passport-size photos

You have to bring your passport and the required documents to the Immigration Police, close to the Malmi train station in Helsinki City, if you live in Helsinki.

It is best to visit the police at 8:00 in the morning because there is alwaus a long queue. The phone number to the Helsinki Immigration Police is +358 71 877 3220, the telephone is open only from 9:00 to 11:00.
