Artist in Residence Programme for Art and Media

 

Pori A-i-R is an international artist-in-residence programme run by the Department of Art and Media Pori. It promotes international interaction between professionals and students in the fields of fine art, design and audiovisual communication, and to strengthen the social and regional status of visual culture through collaborative projects with local actors. The residence programme is open to all nationalities.

Pori A-i-R offers visual culture professionals an opportunity to work in an innovative environment and carry out artistic and educational projects in collaboration with the School of Art and Media Pori. Artists in residence are requested to give two public lectures during their residence about their work in the school’s lecture series.

Artists in residence have the use of a furnished apartment with two rooms and a kitchenette and a 80 sqm studio in the centre of Pori at Vapaudenkatu 1 A. They also have access to equipment at the School of Art and Media Pori. At the end of their residence period the artists have the possibility to make an exhibition at the Art Generation Space, AGS Gallery.


How to apply?

Artists are selected either by invitation or application. Residencies are granted for 1 to 6 months periods. For the spring period (January-June) the applications deadline is May 15th, for the autumn period (July-December) January 15th. The applicants will be informed of the decisions by the end of the month.


Eligible artists must come from one of the following fields of the School of Art and Design Helsinki: fine arts, design, audiovisual communication

Applications must include the following documents:

- Application form (pdf)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Portfolio of 5—10 pictures of applicant's own works (size A4, no originals) and list of works (title, year, medium, size)
- An account of artistic career (max. A4)
- Plan of artistic work to be undertaken in Pori (max. A4)

Applicant may also include a plan of teaching projects they wish to carry out at the Department of Art and Media Pori (max. A4). Artists will be paid a fee for implemented teaching projects.

Applications and attached material will not be returned. Rejected applicants will be notified by e-mail.

The residence programme is funded by a donation made to the Foundation of the University of Art and Design Helsinki.
