The Graduation Ceremony 27 May 2011

Students who are getting their diplomas at the graduation ceremony on 27 May, 2011, are asked to arrive at Sampo Hall, Media Centre Lume, at 12:45 pm. There is a coat rack located on the street level on the left of the main entrance, doorway C.

Are you looking for an apartment in Helsinki region?

Apply for a furnished flat at HOAS? HOAS is letting out furnished flats for the spring 2011. The apartments are located in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. The monthly rent in a shared flat is 389€/month. In a shared studio 266,50€ -269€ and in a studio 533€-538€.The apartments can be rented out until the end of June. If the lease starts at the beginning of May at the latest, you do not have to pay for June. The apartments are rented out from a quota reserved for the exchange students arriving in the Helsinki metropolitan region. The tenant must be a student tor e.g.doing an internship in the Helsinki region. Study Counseling Psychologist’s reception times

Students are offered study counseling by a psychologist specializing in study and student issues. The psychologist, Mr. Tapio Tapola, is receiving students on Tue 18th and 25th of January in the health care office on the 4th floor. Aalto courses for 2011

Aalto courses are courses that are open to all Aalto students. During the spring the following courses are organized: Key Thinkers at the Intersections of Art, Science, Culture and Technology, Method Madness and Knowledge Communication and Visualization. Aaltoliike project will last for the entire year. More information about the courses can be found from here.

 

Enrolment for the Spring term 2011

If you have enrolled as a non-attending student for the spring term, but wish to change your status into attending student, you can do so in the WebOodi between Dec 1st, 2010 and Jan 17th, 2011 or by visiting the Student Services. More information here.

 

Student Guide 2010-2011 and Survival Guide 2010

The Student Guide 2010-2011 and the Survival Guide for new international students can now be downloaded from the internet. The Survival Guide 2010 will be distributed to all international students of the school during the Orientation Days. The Student Guide will not be printed and can only be downloaded from the internet.

Renewing your residence permit

Students need to renew their residence permit before it expires. It is recommended to start the process a couple of months in advance. Summer time  is especially busy. The renewal is done at the Malmi Police Station.

The required documents are the same as when you applied at the Embassy/Consulate of Finland in your home/residence country.

-transcript of record
-certificate of your bank account, at least EUR 6000 for one year
-health insurance that covers up to EUR 30,000
-two passport-size photos in colour

You have to bring your passport and the required documents to the Immigration Police, close to the Malmi train station in Helsinki City, if you live in Helsinki.

It is best to visit the police at 8:00 in the morning because customer services is usually very crowded. The phone number to the Helsinki Immigration Police is +358 71 877 3220, the telephone is open only from 9:00 to 11:00.



Flexible JOO Study Right for Degree Students

JOO is the Flexible Study Rights Agreement between universities in Finland. BA, MA and Doctoral degree students can include completed courses at any other university into their home University degree.

JOO-studies always require the approval by the professors of the degree programmes, both at the student's own university and at the receiving university.
